President Bola Tinubu Criticizes Poverty and Infrastructure in the North

President Bola Tinubu addressed leaders of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. He voiced his concerns over poverty and inadequate infrastructure in the North, labelling the situation unacceptable. Additionally, he highlighted the issue of out-of-school children nationwide, urging elders and leaders to urge State Governors to focus on serving their constituents, particularly those in rural areas.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of local governance, urging state authorities to prioritize community needs and ensure effective administration at the grassroots level. He warned that any appointees failing to meet expectations would face consequences.

“We must prioritize local communities’ needs,” Tinubu said, urging governors to address issues directly impacting citizens’ daily lives. He stressed the significance of adapting policies to current realities and the vital role of local governance in service delivery.

Tinubu described the high number of out-of-school children as unacceptable, underscoring education as a crucial tool in poverty alleviation and nation-building. He pledged collaboration to enhance Nigeria’s education system and eradicate poverty.

Tinubu also addressed security concerns, pledging increased investment in technology to ensure citizens’ safety. Additionally, he discussed economic development, advocating for improved livestock management to boost the economy.

In a call for national unity, Tinubu emphasized the strength of diversity and urged continued support for his administration. He affirmed his commitment to accountability, vowing to relieve underperforming officials of their duties.

Following the meeting, Tinubu directed establishing a committee to address the issues raised, with Senator George Akume tasked with leading the efforts.

Barrister Bashir Dalhatu, Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, congratulated Tinubu on his first year in office and praised his dedication to serving the country. He credited Tinubu’s rapport with Northerners for his electoral success and affirmed the region’s trust and confidence in his leadership.
