- His conviction follows the passing of a guilty verdict on him by a New York jury on Thursday
Former US President Donald Trump has been convicted for committing election fraud and tinkering with business records.
His conviction follows the passing of a guilty verdict on him by a New York jury on Thursday.
This historic verdict makes Trump the first former US president to be criminally convicted.
He was found guilty of all 34 counts he faced. Unanimity was required for any verdict.
Trump will now be sentenced on July 11.
Speaking outside the court after the verdict, a rambunctious Trump claimed that the conviction was a “disgrace” and that he is “a very innocent man.”
He also insisted the trial was manipulated and that the judge was “conflicted” and “should never have been allowed to try this case.”
Trump was at the centre of a scheme to cover up “hush money” payments to buy the silence of a porn star in the days before the 2016 election.
