Gareth Southgate has given Jude Bellingham a week off to decompress before reporting to his England squad for the Euro 2024 tournament, stating that rest was most important for the 20-year-old following his outstanding La Liga season.
Bellingham contributed to Real Madrid’s league title and Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Southgate said Bellingham’s absence was not a sacrifice for himself or the team this week, when they play friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday and Iceland on Friday.
“The most important thing for Jude is rest, recovery, and we will benefit from that,” Southgate told reporters.
