President Bola Tinubu’s horse, affectionately known as “Renewed Hope,” has once again proven its mettle by emerging as the winner of the 2024 edition of the horse racing tournament held in Bida, Niger State, solidifying its status as Africa’s fastest horse.

Having secured victories in the 2022 and 2023 editions, Tinubu’s horse entered the competition as the defending champion and successfully defended its title.

The top three positions in the tournament were awarded cash prizes of N700,000, N500,000, and N300,000, respectively.

Addressing attendees at the event, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago extended his congratulations to President Tinubu’s horse for its remarkable achievement in retaining the championship title.

Governor Bago also commended Etsu Nupe and the Chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, along with other stakeholders, for their efforts in sustaining the annual horse racing tradition in Bida.

In his remarks, Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar emphasized the importance of using sports to preserve cultural norms and values and prevent the erosion of traditions.

He highlighted that the race, deeply rooted in tradition, provided a platform for showcasing cultural activities, further enriching the community’s cultural heritage.

Furthermore, Etsu Nupe announced that the tournament’s fourth edition is scheduled to take place in Kaduna on June 26 this year.

Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha-Bida, the Coordinator of the National Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria, reiterated efforts to expand the competition’s reach across the country, aiming to make it a staple in various regions.
