At least four residents of Niger State have meet their end while trying to escape the onslaught of bandits terrorising the middle belt region.
The residents reportedly drowned while fleeing from the bandits’ attack in the Gurmana community of Shiroro Local Government Area.
It’s gathered that locals in the community often ferry themselves to an island in a canoe where they seek refuge from bandits who frequently target the area.
However, many of the locals who had fled to the island on Wednesday died while returning home on Thursday after their boat capsized.
Recall that the attack by bandits on Wednesday night resulted in the death of three people, the rustling of cattle, and the abduction of several residents in Bassa near Gurmana.
The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
