On Thursday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, visited former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida, who is currently recuperating from injuries sustained in a road accident.

The 50-year-old former Ajax of Amsterdam star suffered a broken right leg in the accident in May, which tragically claimed the lives of his son and younger brother, Ibrahim, who also played for Nigeria in the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning team. Tijani’s wife was also seriously injured in the incident.

Obi, in a post on his social media handle on Thursday, expressed his condolences to Tijani Babangida over the accident and the sad loss of his son and brother, Ibrahim Babangida.

“I encouraged him not to be dispirited by the present painful challenges but to rest his hope in God Almighty. One cannot question God,” Obi said.

As a fan who follows the trajectory of our sports stars, Obi believes they deserve care and love. They have made the nation proud by deploying their talents for the good of society.

He expressed his joy at seeing Babangida’s colleagues showing solidarity with him, with former Atlanta 96 Olympic football medallist Emmanuel Babayero by his side.

Obi concluded by praying to God to grant Babangida and his wife a quick recovery, forgive the sins of the deceased, and grant them eternal rest.
