- Former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero extends invitations to district heads for a traditional Sallah durbar event in Kano
- Circular instructs district heads to bring village heads, horse riders, and praise singers to Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace festivities
The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, recently dethroned by the state government, has extended invitations to district heads for a durbar, a traditional Sallah event.
On Tuesday, a circular signed by a senior councillor of the emirate, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, Galadiman Kano, conveyed the announcement.
The June 10, 2024, circular instructed all district heads to attend the durbar along with their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers.
“We are directing all the district heads of the emirate to come along with their village head, horse riders and praise singers for the festivities.
“Additionally, all district heads are to assemble at Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace at Gidan Nassarawa on Saturday, Zhulhijjah 9, 1445, equivalent to June 15, at 11 am for further directives without delay or insubordination.
“After the day’s court sitting, the emir will meet with all the district heads at the palace’s hall at Gidan Nassarawa to shed light on how this year’s durbar activities will proceed,” the circular stated.
It also mentioned that local government chairmen had been informed of the development to facilitate the smooth transportation of district heads into the Kano metropolis.
However, 7 out of the 8 district heads in the Kano emirate have publicly pledged allegiance to Emir Sanusi.
Furthermore, the local government chairmen, who were notified of the development, belong to the NNPP government that dethroned Ado Bayero. All chairmen have pledged allegiance to his successor, Sanusi II.
Whether the district heads will heed Ado Bayero’s call or align with Emir Sanusi and the Kano state government remains uncertain.
