Emir of Kano

The family of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass has urged Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, to decline reinstatement and follow his grandfather’s example of not returning to power under similar circumstances.

In a statement released in Kano, the Nyass family emphasized prioritizing the state’s peace over personal interests. The statement, signed by Sheikh Muhammad Mahy Ibrahim Nyass, urged Sanusi to consider the broader implications of his reinstatement for the rule of law and the welfare of Kano’s citizens.

The family expressed their deep connection to Kano as a significant centre of the Tijjaniya brotherhood and highlighted their concern over the recent political developments. They stated:

“We, the family of Shaykhul Islam, Gausuzzaman, Qudwatuna ilaa Rabbina, Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass of Kaolack, Senegal, feel compelled to address the recent developments in the Kano Emirate. As a centre of the Tijjaniya brotherhood, our proud state holds great significance.”

They added, “The reinstatement of Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II as Emir of Kano by the Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Executive Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has raised concerns regarding the rule of law and the welfare of the citizenry.”

The Nyass family’s appeal reflects a desire for stability and harmony in Kano, urging Emir Sanusi to take a path that upholds these values.
