- Vice President Shettima urges Nigerian doctors to stay and improve the nation’s healthcare instead of seeking opportunities abroad
- Shettima assures doctors of President Tinubu’s commitment to their welfare and praises their contributions to healthcare delivery
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerian doctors to remain in the country and collaborate with the current administration to improve the nation’s situation rather than seeking better opportunities abroad. During a visit from the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), led by its president, Prof. Bala Audu, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Shettima appealed to the doctors to resist the allure of overseas opportunities amid the ‘Japa’ syndrome.
Shettima assured the doctors that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to their welfare and deeply empathises with those who choose to stay and serve their country. He praised Nigerian doctors’ significant contributions and sacrifices in advancing healthcare delivery.
“Let us stay back and salvage this nation together. This is our country, the greatest black nation on earth, and a promising nation that we need to invest in,” Shettima said.
He also encouraged the NMA to motivate young doctors to specialise in key medical disciplines and combat unqualified practitioners’ activities.
