The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reiterated that the military is steadfast in its support for and reinforcement of democratic governance in Nigeria, affirming that victory over terrorists is on the horizon.
General Musa made these assertions in his Democracy Day address, highlighting the ongoing sacrifices of military personnel in various operational theatres across the country as a testament to their dedication to Nigeria’s unity.
In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the CDS urged all personnel to uphold democratic principles, protect citizens’ rights, and ensure a peaceful and secure environment nationwide.
The statement reads in part: “General Musa reaffirms the unwavering commitment and loyalty of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President, Commander-in-Chief.”
Furthermore, it states, “Accordingly, the AFN remains dedicated to supporting and strengthening democracy for the benefit of all Nigerians, as we shall continue to collaborate with national and sub-national institutions to entrench constitutional governance.”
Acknowledging the sacrifices made by armed forces members in various operational areas across Nigeria, General Musa emphasized their role in advancing the nation’s unity and progress.
The military chief also called on all Nigerians to maintain optimism in the face of challenges and to extend support to the AFN in combating terrorism and criminal activities.
