In Delta State, one Sankey Ovemureye has allegedly killed his six-year-old daughter, Abigail Stanley.
The police said the fugitive father is the principal suspect in the grisly murder of the young girl.
Ovemureye was said to have fled after allegedly committing the heinous act, prompting the police in the oil-rich State to launch a serious manhunt for him.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered his men to go after the fleeing father on Sunday.
The CP stated that “the Command is aware of the gruesome murder of one Abigail Stanley ‘F’ aged six years, allegedly by the father, one Mr. Sankey Ovemureye.”
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, in Warri, on Sunday, said the command “is saddened by this barbaric act.”
While assuring members of the public that “the fleeing suspect will be arrested and justice will be served”, the statement urged anyone with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect to call the control room number on 0803684974 or report at the nearest police station.
The statement partly reads, “The sad and painful incident which occurred on June 15, 2024, was reported by the brother to the fleeing suspect.
“The DPO on receipt of the complaint detailed operatives who went to the scene at Uviama New Layout, Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area and recovered the corpse of the little child whose head was smashed several times on the wall.
“The corpse was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.
The father, who is the principal suspect, is currently at large.”
