- Angry youths demolished Nyesom Wike’s statue at Obio/Akpor council headquarters, citing protection of council property after his tenure
- The incident reflects political tensions between Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, escalating into symbolic public acts
Irate youths demolished the bust statue of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), at the Obio/Akpor council headquarters in Rivers State earlier on Tuesday.
Visibly angry youths, speaking a mix of the Ikwerre dialect and English, pulled down the statue while others cheered them on.
The youths, who forcefully entered the council headquarters, stated that their action was to safeguard council property following the chairman’s resignation.
Wike, a former chairman of Obio/Akpor and ex-governor of Rivers State, has been embroiled in a political conflict with his former protege, the current state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
