Popular Ogun monarch, Towulade of Akinale, is dead


A monarch in Ogun State, the Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, has passed away.

Akinale is in Ewekoro local government area of the south west State.

According to reports, the deceased, a veteran and renowned journalist, died at the age of 79 after an undisclosed illness.

Before his death, he was admitted to St. Thomas Hospital in London where he was receiving medical care and later died on Wednesday, June 19.

A source familiar with the matter said the royal father who just completed his PhD programme in law, was preparing for his graduation in few weeks.

He stints with the old DailyTimes of Nigeria.

He retired as the general manager, public relations of the defunct Nigeria Airways, and was first installed as the Baale of Akinale in 2004 by former Governor Gbenga Daniel and was among those elevated to an Oba by the same administration in 2006.
