Vice President Kashim Shettima reiterated the federal government’s dedication to revitalizing and advancing economic development in Nigeria’s North East region. His remarks came during the Wednesday foundation laying ceremony for the new headquarters of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Maiduguri.
Shettima underscored the importance of unity in reshaping the narrative of the North East, emphasizing its significance to the nation. He highlighted the event as a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment and promise to the region.
“This institution embodies our collective determination to transform the region’s narrative—from one marked by despair and devastation to one characterized by renewal and triumph,” Shettima remarked.
He emphasized that the ceremony marks a significant step towards fulfilling President Tinubu’s pledge to prioritize initiatives that uphold the interests of the North East.
Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, also Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, commended Vice President Shettima for rallying support for the NEDC’s effective functioning. Yahaya urged governors and stakeholders from the Northeast states to collaborate to achieve the commission’s objectives.
Reflecting on the impact of the Boko Haram insurgency, Governor Yahaya lamented its devastating effects, which he described as setting the North East region back by half a century.
“We must exert ourselves to regain lost ground, and with Vice President Shettima’s encouragement and backing, we can achieve that,” he added.
