The Defence Headquarters (HQ) in Abuja has announced it has intensified its intelligence efforts to root out terrorists across Nigeria in response to reports of Sahel fighters entering the country through Benin Republic.
According to the Clingendael Institute, jihadists have established bases in Niger and Kebbi states, with growing militant activity in Benin Republic’s zones controlled by Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin.

Highlighting recent successes, Buba reported the killing of 220 terrorists, the rescue of 202 kidnapped victims, substantial weapons seizures, and anti-oil theft operations in the South-South region.
He detailed, “Troops recovered a variety of weapons, including rifles, grenades, and ammunition, alongside vehicles and substantial cash sums.”
The military said it would continues to deploy significant force to disrupt terrorist activities nationwide, prioritising security for farmers during the rainy season.
