Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, has called on Nigeria’s leaders to provide concrete solutions to the country’s numerous challenges.

He chided President Bola Tinubu for saying that Nigerians are not the only ones facing poverty in the world.

Recall that the President said this in Lagos on Monday when he received a delegation from the National Assembly who came to felicitate with him on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.

In a statement posted on his official X page on Friday, Obi lamented that Nigeria is facing numerous challenges, including poverty, insecurity, hunger, poor education quality, high infant mortality, corruption, unemployment, and infrastructure and healthcare challenges.

He expressed disappointment that those in charge of addressing these problems are instead making statements that downplay the severity of the situation.

“It is disheartening to hear those in charge, who were hired to address our problems, make statements like ‘we are not the only ones struggling with poverty and hunger,'” Obi said.

Obi urged leaders to offer tangible solutions to these problems, rather than mere reminders that other countries face similar challenges.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle Nigeria’s unique struggles, rather than generalizations that dismiss the experiences of Nigerians.

The former presidential candidate noted that true leaders provide direction, guidance, solutions, and reassurance in times of crisis, citing the example of a pilot who assures passengers of their safety during turbulence.

He called on leaders to provide a roadmap for overcoming obstacles and to work towards a brighter future for all Nigerians.
