The Lagos State government says 24 persons have now lost their lives to cholera as officials battle to contain the deadly epidemic.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi confirmed the development on his X handle @ProfAkinAbayomi on Friday morning.
He stated that the update was from the Lagos State Cholera Outbreak Sitiation Report (EPI Week 25) as of 19th of June, 2024.
Abayomi stated, “The situation report indicates 417 suspected cases, 35 confirmed cases, and a total of 24 recorded deaths. The graphs depict the distribution of cases across the 20 LGAs in the state.”
From the graphic illustration, the peak of the outbreak occurred in Ajeromi, Kosofe, Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho and Eti-Osa LGAs on the 10th of June, 2024.
Abayomi cautioned Lagosians to adhere strictly to personal and environmental hygiene and to stay safe from infection risk.
On Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi, announced an increase in the number of deaths to 21 as suspected cases rise to 401 across the state with Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa recording the highest infections.
