Begging, extortion at Nigerian airports tarnishing country’s image – Aviation minister, Keyamo

Festus Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo has bemoaned the scourge of begging and extortion at Nigerian International airports by some unscrupulous individuals.

The minister said the practice of staff begging and extorting travellers sullies the reputation of the nation and brings it name into disrepute.

In a post on his official X handle, he claimed that his cell phone beeps every minute with messages from concerned citizens who continue to complain about the matter.

The minister, however, said those indulging in these ignoble and embarrassing acts are not under the control of his ministry but he is liaising with other government agencies and officials to address the anomaly.

The Minister clarified that “most of the agencies involved in this menace are not under the control of the Aviation Ministry, though they are stationed at our airports.

“However, I have been working closely with other Ministers, arms of government and agencies who are responsible for these agencies and a solution is in sight soon”.
