The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has neutralized a suspected kidnapper and rescued a 63-year-old retired Shell Petroleum Company worker.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, made this known to journalists on Monday.
He revealed that the police rescue team killed the suspected kidnapper during a gun duel and that the abducted retired oil company worker was rescued unhurt in a compound located at Ikot Udobong Village in Etim Ekpo LGA of the state.
According to the state Police Command, the kidnappers had initially demanded for N50 million ransom and later agreed to collect N20 million.
“The victim was rescued unhurt in a compound located at Ikot Udobong Village in Etim Ekpo LGA.
“However, no ransom was paid at the time of the rescue. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
