Gunmen assassinate banker in Edo

In Edo State, a man simply identified as Nosa has been gunned down by gunmen suspected to cultists.

The deceased, who was said to be an employee of a new generation bank, was reportedly killed in Benin City by the assaillants.

According to reports, the incident happened after the close of work last Thursday at Government Reservation Area, GRA, Benin City.

It was gathered that someone, who is believed to be a friend of the deceased, called him while he was in office and invited him for a hangout at a joint.

A source, who is privy to the incident and spoke in confidence with newsmen, claimed that the deceased, while on his way to the rendez-vous, was ambushed by the assailants, who immediately opened fire on him.

He said the victim was rushed to a hospital but he did not make it as he was confirmed dead.

The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, the Command confirmed it; it is an unfortunate incident. But as I speak, the matter is under investigation,” the Police spokesman said.

He assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book
