- Governor Alia accuses Gwer/Gwer National Assembly members of opposing his state development initiatives during a community thank-you tour
- Arc. Asema Achado denies Governor Alia’s claims, calling them deliberate misinformation and reaffirming his commitment to constituency development
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has accused National Assembly members from the Gwer/Gwer Federal Constituency of opposing his development initiatives for the state. He made these remarks during a thank-you tour to the Gwer people held at St. Francis Primary School Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area over the weekend.
Although Governor Alia did not specifically name anyone, it is noted that Senator Titus Zam of Benue Northwest and Arc. Asema Achado, a member of the House of Representatives for Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency, is one of the two national parliamentarians from that area. These representatives have aligned themselves closely with Senator George Akume, which has caused friction due to Akume’s strained relationship with the governor over control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
During his visit to Aliade, Governor Alia criticized National Assembly members within the constituency for their alleged opposition to his development plans. He assured the community that their resistance would not hinder progress.
In response, Arc. Asema Achado, speaking through his Personal Assistant Mendah Manasseh, refuted Governor Alia’s claims as deliberate misinformation and falsehoods aimed at gaining political favour. Achado emphasized his commitment to development, citing his track record of supporting state governors in bringing projects to the people of Gwer East/Gwer West. He challenged Governor Alia to identify any developmental project initiated or completed in the constituency under his administration.
The rift highlights ongoing tensions between Governor Alia and certain National Assembly members, underscoring governance and development coordination challenges within Benue State.
