President Tinubu elevates Ibadan domestic airport to international status

President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the upgrade of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, elevating it to international status to foster economic growth and regional integration.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed this on Wednesday while hosting the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office at the State Secretariat in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde announced plans to travel to Abuja to secure the necessary documents for the project, assuring that construction will commence once the paperwork is finalized.

He detailed the project’s scope, which includes extending the runway and constructing a new terminal, and mentioned that a team has been formed to oversee the project’s execution.

According to Governor Makinde, the airport upgrade will significantly enhance the state’s economy.

He also sought the expertise of Air Force personnel in the state to ensure the project adheres to required operational standards.
