The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the Nigerian Army to guard against tribalism, warning that allowing such divisions could fracture the army and the nation.
During the commissioning of the newly constructed Nigerian Army Armoured Corps Headquarters complex in Bauchi on Wednesday, Sultan Abubakar emphasized the importance of unity within the military ranks. He remarked, “You are now in the military, where origins, religions, and ethnicities have become focal points. We didn’t pay attention to these details in the past. Please prevent these issues from infiltrating the army, as it could divide it and our nation.”
Furthermore, the Sultan called on Nigerians to refrain from vilifying military personnel in various peacekeeping operations nationwide. He emphasized the vital role of security in daily life, stating, “Nigerians must support and pray for the military because, without security, we cannot sleep peacefully, work, or even attend places of worship.”
In response, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Mohammed Jatau, affirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. He assured that Bauchi State stands ready to collaborate to maintain peace and safeguard the lives and properties of its residents.
