Former Super Eagles striker Peter Odemwingie is keen to help develop golf in Nigeria. Recently, he was recognized as a professional golfer by the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) after completing his training.
Odemwingie is well-known for his football career, having scored over 30 Premier League goals for West Bromwich Albion. He also played for Cardiff City and Stoke City. He represented Nigeria in two World Cups and won an Olympic medal 2008. After retiring from football, he shifted his focus to golf and became a PGA professional.
In a statement on the PGA website, Odemwingie expressed his pride in achieving this milestone. He said, “I challenged myself in sports and academically. Being around driven people who aim to achieve is motivating. I hope my journey inspires others to pursue their goals, whether through the PGA or other studies.”
Odemwingie noted that many sporting nations lack representation in golf on the world stage. He mentioned that his studies were his priority in recent years, but now that he has graduated, he plans to organize golf tournaments in Nigeria with substantial prize money. He believes his new status as a PGA professional will help open doors and garner support for his initiatives.
