- Peter Obi cannot win in 2027 if he leaves the Labour Party, says National Vice Chairman Ayo Olorunfemi
- Obi emphasized focusing on water, power, employment, and security, stating their mission is about Nigeria, not just the party
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, cannot win in 2027 if he leaves the party, says National Vice Chairman Ayo Olorunfemi.
Obi had hinted at leaving the party amid a post-election crisis. He emphasized that their mission is about Nigeria, not just the Labour Party. Obi mentioned their focus on water, power, employment, and security. He drew a parallel with Christian teachings, stressing efforts to change the party but not at the cost of his mission.
Following this, some supporters urged Obi to leave the Labour Party. However, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Olorunfemi dismissed these suggestions. He stated that true supporters would never advise Obi to leave.
Olorunfemi argued that Nigerians, especially the youth and hardworking citizens, are tired of the current state of the country. He questioned which political party Obi would join if he left, pointing out that the Labour Party is built on social democratic values. Olorunfemi asserted that the only path to victory for Obi in 2027 is through the Labour Party, and they are preparing for that.
