Army arrest railway tracks vandals in Kaduna

The suspects, who had already loaded two trucks with vandalized rail tracks, claimed they were hired by a man named Alhaji Babawo

Troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State arrested 47 suspected rail track vandals on June 26, 2024, during a routine patrol along Kakau Daji-Anguwan.

The suspects, who had already loaded two trucks with vandalized rail tracks, claimed they were hired by a man named Alhaji Babawo, who is currently on the run. They were supposed to steal the tracks and offload them in a nearby bush.

Lt. Col. IY Rena, the acting Commander of the 1 Division Provost Group, stated that the 47 suspects were properly profiled to determine their involvement in similar crimes. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the rest of the gang.

In a tweet on X on Saturday, Lt. Col. Rena mentioned that some of the vandalized tracks were found hidden in a nearby bush, awaiting collection by other criminal syndicates.

The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) authorities at the Kaduna Station for further investigation.
