According to the presidency, Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah is revolutionizing leadership in the South East. His innovative approach has garnered praise and recognition.
Recently, Governor Mbah received the National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Award from the Vice President’s Office on World MSME Day. This accolade highlights his significant contributions to the MSME sector in Enugu State.
At the National MSME Awards held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, presented the award. He commended Governor Mbah’s impressive leadership and IT expertise and emphasized its positive impact on Enugu State’s governance and MSME development.
Hadejia noted, “Dr. Peter Mbah is transforming leadership in Enugu State and across the South East. He recognizes MSMEs’ critical role in boosting productivity and economic activities.”
Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling MSMEs the lifeblood of economic development. He praised Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima for his unwavering support of the Light-Up Nigeria Project, which aims to enhance power supply to industrial clusters in the South East.
Governor Mbah stated, “We thank the Vice President’s Office for acknowledging our efforts to support MSMEs in Enugu State. MSMEs thrive through policies that improve the business climate. We aim to grow Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in the next four to eight years, largely through the success of MSMEs.”
To support MSMEs, Governor Mbah’s administration has launched several initiatives:
- a N1 billion Venture Capital Fund, soon to be introduced as the Enugu State & SMEDAN Joint Matching Funds for Nano, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.
- The Enugu State Fashion and Garment Hub, training 5,000 youth in fashion skills over three years, in partnership with the Vice President’s Office and private sector.
- The Enugu Skill Acquisition Masterclass, offering essential resources and insights for digital entrepreneurs and startups.
- Training programs in tech skills like software engineering and product design, tailored to 21st-century demands.
- A world-class innovation and entrepreneurship hub for addressing societal challenges.
- The Enugu NG-CARES Programme, which has provided over N1 billion in grants to support over 4,000 MSMEs.
- The Transforming Nigeria Youth Programme supports over 7,000 women-led micro-enterprises with entrepreneurial skills and cash grants.
Governor Mbah is also working to transform Enugu into a premier outsourcing destination, leveraging infrastructure and talent to replicate India’s success in Business Process Outsourcing and IT-Enabled Outsourcing.
With these efforts, Enugu State is poised for significant economic growth and development under Governor Mbah’s visionary leadership.
