Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for selecting Bende federal constituency as the Renewed Hope agenda housing estate site in Abia State.
This project, a 250-unit housing estate under the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, was brought to Bende by Hon. Kalu, who also represents the constituency in the House of Representatives.
The estate will include 50 one-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 150 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 50 three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.
President Tinubu, through the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday in Umuoche, Bende LGA. The President urged developers to complete the project within three months and adhere to specifications.
Under Phase One of the Renewed Hope Cities programme, the government aims to deliver 50,000 housing units, including 7 Renewed Hope Cities with 500 to 1,000 units per site in each of the six geopolitical zones and the FCT.
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu, represented the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, at the event.
Hon. Kalu praised President Tinubu, stating that the project addresses Nigeria’s housing deficit. According to a statement by Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Kalu, who was represented by Hon. Emmanuel Eke, Federal Commissioner for Abia State in the National Population Commission (NPC), appreciated the President for selecting his constituency. He emphasized that this would boost the people’s confidence in the APC-led Federal Government.
Kalu assured his constituents of more benefits from democracy and urged them to support President Tinubu’s administration.
The event was attended by Bende traditional rulers and several youths and women from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
