The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has restated that enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) remains free of charge across Nigeria.

Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General/Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, affirmed this during a Wednesday two-day roundtable with online newspaper publishers in Abuja.

“I am committed to eradicating corruption within NIMC, in alignment with the President’s mandate. I emphasize that enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) is free of charge in Nigeria,” she stated.

Coker-Odusote highlighted the significant influence of online media in disseminating information, particularly among youths, while acknowledging its potential for spreading misinformation and rumours.

She underscored the dual role of online publishers as critical partners in conveying accurate information and potential sources of misconceptions.

“We recognize your ability to amplify our achievements and the risks of misunderstandings. This roundtable seeks to establish a partnership leveraging your strengths to support our mission and address any misconceptions promptly and accurately,” the DG explained.

“The objective is to provide a platform for NIMC to communicate our activities and accomplishments directly, fostering clear communication and mutual understanding,” she added.
