Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has advocated for capital punishment for those sabotaging the Dangote Refinery and exacerbating the hardships faced by Nigerians. He called on Thursday in Abuja during the inaugural Prof Emeka Umerah public lecture, themed “Nigeria Yesterday, Today, and a Prosperous Future.”
Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, also mentioned that the Senate is considering reviewing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has expressed frustration over the difficulties faced by the Dangote Refinery in securing local crude oil. Despite the refinery’s potential, Nigeria continues to export its crude oil while it is forced to import crude from the United States.
“Despite celebrating Dangote Refinery, Nigeria’s crude oil is still being exported, leaving Dangote to import crude from America. These saboteurs deserve to be hanged. If we don’t hang them, they will hang us. This requires a president with extraordinary courage,” Oshiomhole stated.
Former Director-General of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, emphasized that no nation can prosper if its people are pessimistic and lack belief in positive outcomes.
Professor Emeka Umerah, the host and a U.S.-based Professor of Medicine, praised President Bola Tinubu for his vision and determination amid opposition. He noted that it takes a courageous leader to implement ongoing reforms, even if they cause temporary pain.
“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold leadership over the past year. Leading Nigeria involves navigating complex challenges and making decisions that may not yield immediate results. As we celebrate these achievements, we must continue to support courageous leaders and work towards a nation where every citizen has a fair chance at success and prosperity reaches every corner of our land,” Umerah said.
