A 100-level female student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Favour Okenyi, was found dead on Friday evening.
Favour, a medical laboratory science student, had gone missing on Tuesday after attending her chemistry practical.
Her body was discovered behind Eni-Njoku male hostel within the university premises.
A video showing her body in a gutter has circulated online, filmed by students who questioned her gender.
The spokesperson for the university, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the incident, stating that the management is working with security agencies and the deceased’s family to investigate the circumstances of her death and prevent similar incidents.
The spokesperson said: “The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.
“We implore anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the university administration.”
