- The complainant had alleged that the defendant was fond of enticing his wife, Mrs Blessing Nwafor, since they got married, even after several warnings and pleas for him to desist.
One Ekejiuba George has been accused of enticing a married woman in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
George, a clergyman, appeared before a Magistrate’s Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, over the allegation on Tuesday.
The defendant was charged with enticing a married woman. He pleaded not guilty of the charge.
Consequently, The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must live within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until July 22, for hearing.
Counsel to the complainant, Eze Osinachi, told the court that his client, Mr Chika Nwafor is a pastor within the jurisdiction of the court.
According to him, the complainant had alleged that the defendant was fond of enticing his wife, Mrs Blessing Nwafor, since they got married, even after several warnings and pleas for him to desist.
Osinachi further alleged that the defendant usually calls the complainant’s wife at midnight, and sometimes the complainant’s wife would go outside and have a conversation with him (the defendant).
“The defendant and the complainant’s wife exchange pictures of each other via their WhatsApp and have been spotted in some places at odd hours of the day.
“The defendant has been doing everything humanly possible to cause a breakup in the marriage between the complainant and his wife as he constantly incites the complainant’s wife against the complainant.
“In spite of the interventions of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) of Tunga Maje, the defendant has not stopped enticing the complainant’s wife and interfering in their marriage,” he said.
Osinachi said the complainant wants the court to compel the defendant to stop enticing his wife and interfering in his marriage, adding that the offence violates the provisions of Section 389 of the Penal Code
