- The announcement, made on Tuesday, was welcomed by the association as a positive step towards resolving long-standing issues in the agriculture sector
The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has expressed its satisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to establish the Livestock Development Ministry.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, was welcomed by the association as a positive step towards resolving long-standing issues in the agriculture sector.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, the South West Chairman of AFAN, Femi Oke, expressed optimism about the new ministry’s potential impact.
“It is not new news to stakeholders in the agriculture sector. Some time ago, we had a meeting in Abuja on livestock, and that was one of our conclusions to the federal government. It is to ease the bottleneck of the Ministry of Agriculture,” he explained.
Oke emphasized that the creation of the Livestock Development Ministry could signal an end to the persistent farmers-herders conflicts and related banditry that have plagued Nigeria for years.
“For years now, we have been hearing of farmer-herders conflict, and we now decided that the agriculture ministry should be decentralized. It is a welcome development to us farmers. It is a joy to farmers,” he said.
He further added, “We believe the ministry’s creation will bring to an end farmers-herders conflicts and banditry.”
