The result means England have lost back-to-back European Championship finals.

As the final whistle blew, the Spanish players erupted in joy, hugging each other and basking in the adoration of their fans, while the English team struggled to come to terms with their heartbreaking defeat.

The victory parade in Madrid the following day drew millions of fans, all united in their pride and celebration of Spain’s triumphant campaign.
