Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-Governor of Enugu State, has emphasized the need for robust and genuine internal democracy within the PDP as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an online PDP Rescue Mission International meeting themed “Power and Unity,” Dr Nwodo highlighted the significance of having a party capable of providing vibrant and viable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He stressed that such opposition is crucial for the health of Nigeria’s democracy.
The meeting marked the launch of a global mobilization program aimed at recruiting a minimum of 20 Nigerians per week for the next election. Dr. Nwodo commended the movement’s collective efforts in striving to regain power for the PDP in 2027. He reiterated the importance of prioritizing internal democracy and making the PDP an effective opposition party to benefit Nigeria’s democracy.
Dr. Nwodo also reaffirmed his dedication to the mission of the PDP Rescue Mission International, which aims to reform, rebuild, and return the PDP to power.
Comrade Vik-Morrow Okon Ulo, the Director-General and Global Chairman of PDP Rescue Mission International, explained the significance of the group’s grassroots mobilization drive. He stated that the movement’s goal of mobilizing one million people would motivate and encourage members to engage in grassroots work.
Highlighting the strength of unity within the PDP Rescue Mission International, Ulo said, “No one man is greater than all of us,” and expressed optimism for a better Nigeria under a reformed PDP.
Chief Olatomiwa Kolawole from Kwara State, another speaker at the meeting, called for active grassroots engagement rather than centralized efforts from Abuja. He urged party leaders to ensure that the people’s confidence in the PDP is upheld and not betrayed.
