Akpabio names senate committee chairman on livestock development, others

The senate president named Simon Lalong and Abdul Ningi as chairmen of the senate committee on agricultural institutions and national population, respectively.


The Senate today announced the appointment of Senator Musa Mustapha (APC-Yobe) as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock Development.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the announcement was made during plenary on Wednesday.

This development comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s recent creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.

In a related development, Senator Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno) has been elevated to the position of Majority Whip of the Senate. Consequently, his previous position as Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters will now be occupied by Senator Adegbonmire Adeniyi (SAN) (APC-Ondo).

The Senate President’s announcements were made during plenary on Wednesday, marking a significant reorganization of the Senate’s committee leadership.

Other appointments include that of Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno) as Chairman Senate Committee on Tourism while Sen. Anthony Ani (APC-Ebonyi) becomes deputy chairman of the committee.

“Chairman of the Senate Committee on the proposed Reparation and Repatriation becomes Sen. Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta).

“The Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation lies with Sen. Mohammed Monguno in addition to being the Chief Whip of the Senate”.

He said that Sen. Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau) chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Institutions.

Akpabio further announced that Sen. Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) retained his position as Chairman Senate Committee on National Identity and Population.

“In line with the spirit of togetherness and forgiveness, Sen. Abdul Ningi retains his earlier position as committee chairman on National Population.”
