Akwa Ibom: Gunmen abduct naval officer, 7 others


Gunmen terrorising Nigeria’s oil-rich State of Akwa Ibom have struck again, kidnapping at least eight.

Among those kidnapped during the Monday night incident is a naval rating

The incident happened at Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka. in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Timfon John, who confirmed the abduction of the eight victims.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara had led a team of security personnel to the community, assuring that the victims would be rescued safely and the offenders brought to book.

According to her: “When the police got the information, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara led a team of security personnel to the community.

“I can assure you that with that visit by the CP and other strategic approaches, normalcy will return.”

This is coming a few days after the driver and 18 passengers of an AKTC bus en route Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from Uyo were abducted and their whereabouts are still unknown.

Meanwhile, the Naval authorities in Akwa Ibom have yet to speak on the development
