The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. This appeal was made during the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to the Oba’s Iga Idugaran palace in Lagos.
The Oba expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s intentions and capabilities, highlighting his grassroots focus. According to the First Lady’s spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, the monarch emphasized the importance of prayer for the nation’s success under Tinubu’s leadership.
“All I am saying and appealing is that we should pray for Nigeria and the president. We should be patient. Everything good needs prayers,” the statement quoted the Oba.
Oba Akiolu also addressed the youth, encouraging them to be closer to God and to adopt a proactive attitude towards life. He acknowledged the general hardworking nature of Nigerian youth but noted that some are overly reliant on external assistance. “Though some youth are incurably lazy and are always waiting to be spoon-fed, teach them not to always wait for fish but learn how to fish themselves,” he said.
The visit also allowed the monarch to reiterate his call for special status for Lagos State, given its historical significance as Nigeria’s former federal capital.
Accompanied by the wives of several South West governors, National Assembly members, ministers, and service chiefs, the First Lady thanked the Oba for his support and prayers. She assured him of President Tinubu’s dedication to Nigeria’s progress. “I assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do well for this country. He loves Nigeria; he loves Nigerians and will do the best for them,” she affirmed.
Mrs. Tinubu also pledged that the National Assembly would request the Oba’s special status for Lagos attention through Lagos representatives.
