- Ubah, who was re-elected to the Senate on the platform of the Young Progressive Party, had defected to the APC in October 2023.
- The senator explained in the letter read by the Senate Chamber that he switched parties because of the insurmountable disagreements within the YPP.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a former governorship candidate, is currently in a private meeting with APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
Several Anambra APC chieftains, including Minister of Women Affairs Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, Anambra APC Chairman Chief Basil Ejidike, and Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru, are also in attendance.
The meeting’s agenda has not been disclosed, but sources suggest that it may be related to the APC’s efforts to expand its presence in the Southeast, particularly in Abia and Enugu States, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I understand the ruling party has been seeking a heavyweight politician to wrest power from the APGA government in Anambra and may have settled for Senator Ifeanyi Ubah,” a source told Punch.
There are rumors that Ubah may be considered as the APC’s governorship candidate in Anambra State.
Ubah, who was re-elected to the Senate under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) platform, defected to the APC in October 2023 due to internal disagreements within the YPP.
The senator’s defection was formalized in a letter read at the Senate Chamber.
