Tai Solarin University suspends ‘sign out’ celebrations after student death

This measure aims to ensure safety and maintain a serene environment during the final examinations

The management of Tai Solarin University of Education has indefinitely suspended the customary ‘sign out’ and ‘log out’ celebration activities for final-year students following the death of a 400-level student, Hammed Ayinla Fabiyi.

This measure aims to ensure safety and maintain a serene environment during the final examinations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the university’s ACEO (Information), Bankole Mofolorunso Adegoke, disclosed that Fabiyi was killed by suspected cultists after being dragged out of an examination hall while writing his final papers. Despite being rescued, Fabiyi succumbed to his injuries after being taken to two hospitals.

Adegoke emphasized that violators of this and existing policies will be sanctioned. The Students’ Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Security Division, will recommend appropriate penalties for offenders.

The statement reiterated the ban on students driving personal vehicles to campus and the strict enforcement of mandatory student identification cards to enhance campus security.

“The University Management urges all students to comply with these directives to ensure a peaceful and conducive learning environment,” Adegoke said.
