Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has refuted claims that his son, Umara Zulum, was arrested in India for the murder of a foreign national at a nightclub.

Abdulraman Ahmed Bundi, Zulum’s media aide, dismissed the allegations.

“Our attention has been drawn to rumours that the son of the Borno State Governor has been arrested for the alleged murder of an Indian citizen,” Bundi said.

“This misinformation was published by an online blog titled ‘Son of Borno State Governor Murders Someone In India—Politics,’ which also claimed the Governor travelled to India to use diplomatic status to resolve the matter.”

Bundi clarified that Governor Zulum was on a one-month vacation in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj and later attended the ASUWAN forum conference in Cairo, Egypt.

“The Media Unit would like to set the record straight that these blogs have spread defamatory content without any truth,” Bundi stated. “None of Governor Zulum’s sons have been arrested, charged with any crime, or involved in any unlawful activities anywhere.”

Bundi urged the public to be cautious when consuming and sharing information from unverified sources and blogs, and called on media organisations to practice responsible journalism.
