The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced that 250 Nigerians will soon be repatriated from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was disclosed by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, during a visit to Ambassador Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, on Tuesday.
A statement signed by Gabriel Odu from the Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM explained that the visit aimed to strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations between Nigeria and the UAE following the recent removal of the visa ban on Nigeria by the Arab country.
Dabiri-Erewa mentioned that NiDCOM plans to engage and sensitize Nigerians in the UAE to be good ambassadors, excel in their endeavours, and always remember their home country. She emphasized that this initiative aims to foster better understanding and compliance with local regulations.
She also revealed that 190 Nigerians had already been repatriated, with an additional 250 expected to return soon. She stressed that the actions of individuals in a host country can significantly impact the overall image of their home country.
Confirming the official lifting of the visa ban on Nigeria, Ambassador Al-Shamsi noted that the visa-on-arrival policy had been cancelled for all countries. However, he assured that the new procedures are designed to facilitate tourism and ensure the safe return of travellers. He expressed his commitment to providing the best possible services to Nigerians.
The statement did not specify whether the repatriation of Nigerians was part of the agreement reached with the Nigerian government before the visa ban was lifted.
