The Kano State government has approved a total sum of N29,064,181,673.65 for the initiation and completion of various capital projects aimed at enhancing social and physical development across the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sanusi Bature on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the decision was made during the recent State Executive Council Meeting, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the council chambers in the Government House, Kano.
The statement revealed that the council’s resolutions cover numerous interventions, including agriculture, road construction, and payment of backlog allowances, among others.
“The council approved N7,761,681,223.22 for the continuation of 5-kilometer dual carriageway projects across the 44 local government areas.”
He also explained that the amount, representing a 10 percent rescue intervention, would be funded through the state joint account with local governments, on a 30:70 share basis.
The council also sanctioned N239,536,859.21 for the construction of three rural roads: Ja’en Makera-Salanta Gudduba-Unguwar Baizangon Guliya, Fagoje-Kwanar Zuwo in Gwale, Ajingi, and Kiru/Madobi LGAs.
“Approval for the procurement of 500 relief transformers to be distributed to various communities across the 44 local government areas in the state at the sum of N7,123,750,000.00 was also given,” Dawakin-Tofa stated.
He further noted that the council approved N6,400,000,000.00 for the 2024 Constituency Projects in the state.
Additionally, N343,363,068.78 was approved for the construction of a 2-coat surface-dressed road from Kwanar Gammawa in Gezawa LGA.
“The procurement of 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles and one Toyota bus for the State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) was approved at a cost of N819,500,000.00.
“Approval for the construction of rural roads and intervention/counterpart funds under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, costing N5,345,343,190.98, was granted,” Daadded.
Other approvals included N26,405,447.92 for the renovation and conversion of offices for the Chairman of the Anti-Phone Snatching Task Force Committee at Coronation Hall, Government House. Additionally, N29,619,918.23 was allocated for the repair of a failed section of asphalt surfacing within the premises of Tower at Kofar Nassarawa.
The council also approved a 30 percent counterpart fund for the construction and rehabilitation of twelve rural roads across the 44 LGAs at a cost of N354,766,992.59.
Further, N248,786,369.72 was sanctioned for additional expansion on the scope of works, including crash barriers, street curbs, and painting.
Finally, N130,460,000.00 was approved for the payment of harmonized allowances for 2,803 casual staff at the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board.
