On Friday, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia announced that his administration will implement the Federal Government-approved N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.

Governor Alia made this declaration while speaking with newsmen in Makurdi. He emphasized that his administration is committed to ensuring state operations function smoothly and effectively.

“Although the economy is challenging and progress has been slow, we have implemented plans and measures to improve functionality. Our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has increased, and it is now up to us to address any inefficiencies to maximize revenue for other essential needs, including salary payments,” Governor Alia said.

He assured that his administration is focused on aligning with federal agreements, stating, “With determination and clear purpose, we can meet the minimum wage requirement set by the federal government. As sub-nationals, we should comply with these standards.”

Governor Alia underscored the essential role of the workforce in governance, noting, “Without a dedicated workforce, no government can function effectively. Therefore, we must adhere to the minimum wage agreement set by the federal government and organized labour.
