The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has held a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders from all 18 local government areas to strategize for the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
The meeting, which took place at the New Festival Hall in Benin City, aimed to unite party leaders and prepare for the election.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the meeting comes hours after Shaibu Phillip, the reinstated deputy governor of Edo defected from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress.
Obaseki expressed his gratitude to the party leaders for their dedication and commitment, acknowledging their efforts in electing the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
He praised Ighodalo’s attributes, intelligence, and integrity, expressing confidence in his ability to excel as the next governor of Edo State.
The governor emphasized the party’s readiness for the election, highlighting the inauguration of the State Campaign Council, Local Governments Campaign Council, and ward campaign teams.
He also noted the successful upload of party agents’ names into the INEC portal.
With the election just 60 days away, Obaseki urged party leaders to work together to ensure victory.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating that the PDP is the only party in the state and that they will win the election.
The meeting concluded with a sense of determination and unity among party leaders, ready to face the upcoming election with a strong and coordinated campaign.q
