Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of Edo State, has declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo. Shaibu cited alleged anti-party activities by Governor Godwin Obaseki during the last election as his reason for backing Okpebholo.

In an interview on Channels TV’s “Politics Today,” Shaibu accused Governor Obaseki of supporting Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 elections. He stated that the people of Edo State now prefer a “homeboy” to be the governor rather than an outsider.

Shaibu explained, “I am not double dating. When you have a child or a leader, you want to pick everything the leader does. The governor himself wanted us to support the Labour Party and asked us to support the Labour Party candidate during the last election. The wife even told us that Atiku and Tinubu would never win the election.

“So, they did anti-party and I saw that they did anti-party and nothing happened. The governor on Channels TV said that you can choose whom you like. I am right to follow suit to support whom I like.

“I am now supporting Monday Okpebholo. We need our homeboy now to be the governor. We don’t need an outsider. Apata and Monday Okpebholo are the only true homeboys in the three major political parties in the state.”
