- The suspects were detained by the Anti-vandal Unit on July 14
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom has arrested nine suspects for illegal petroleum dealings and impounded three trucks carrying 135,000 litres of petroleum products.
State Commandant Eluyemi Eluwade announced the arrests at a briefing in Uyo. The suspects were detained by the Anti-vandal Unit on July 14 along the Ikot Abasi-Port Harcourt Expressway for failing to produce proper documentation for the petroleum products they were transporting.
Two of the trucks were carrying 45,000 litres of diesel each, while the third had 45,000 litres of suspected crude oil or used engine oil.
Additionally, on July 15, another suspect was arrested in Idu Uruan for conspiracy, tampering, and theft of armoured cable from a transformer at the Nigeria Medical Association Centre.
Eluwade emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to combating illegal activities, including illegal bunkering, petroleum adulteration, and public utility vandalism. The suspects will be charged in court following investigations.
