Biden drops out of presidential race

US President Joe Biden

United States of America president, Joe Biden, has shelved his re-election bid.

Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race on Sunday in a statement he personally signed.

Biden said dropping out of the presidential race was in the best interest of his party, The Democratic Party, and the country.

He said he would now focus on his duties as the president for the remainder of his tenure.

The 46th president of the United States pulled the plug on his second term ambition following pressure from the Democratic Party hierarchy as concerns mount over his frail health and troubling cognitive impairment.

The call for Biden to quit the presidential race reached a crescendo during the first public debate with his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, last month.

The US president put up an abysmal display which spurred many to conclude that he may have handed victory to Trump.

He was incoherent, struggled to articulate his thought and for most part lost his train of thoughts, making his answers come out as nothing more than ramblings and babbles.

His performance during the debate heightened voters’ worries about his ability to serve another four-year term.
