US presidential election: Biden endorses Kamala Harris as Democratic Party nominee

US President Joe Biden has thrown his weight behind Kamala Harris, the vice-president, for the nation’s biggest and highest public office.

Biden endorsed Harris as his replacement for the United States 2024 presidential election after he shelved his second term ambition on Sunday.

He stated that his decision to withdraw from the presidential race was is in the best interest of his party and country.

In another post on X, Biden said he has offered his full support to Harris as a nominee of the Democratic Party in the forthcoming election.

He appealed to the party members to join forces and defeat the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.

“Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
