Chief Missioner of the Nasrullahi Fathi Society (NASFAT), Imam Abdulaziz Onike, cautioned against organizing protests against hunger, stating that demonstrations are not the solution to the hardships faced by Nigerians.
Speaking at the sidelines of the Annual General Meeting and distribution of Zakat by the NASFAT Agency for Zakat and Sadaqah (NAZAS), where N132.2 million worth of items were distributed to the less privileged for the month of Muharram, Onike acknowledged the prevailing hardships but emphasized that Zakat is an Islamic institution aimed at alleviating poverty.
Onike urged well-to-do individuals to regularly pay their Zakat to help mitigate the current economic difficulties. He argued that protesting against hunger is not an effective solution and instead encouraged followers to pray for their leaders, as Islam teaches.
He warned that even peaceful protests could be hijacked by hoodlums, leading to unintended consequences. Onike suggested better avenues for expressing grievances, such as advising leaders and praying for them. He emphasized the importance of correcting leaders “mildly” and constructively, noting that they are part of the society and should be supported in making positive changes.
